Our temporary and permanent supportive housing models were a hit at two 2023 conventions
At Connect Homes, we continue to escalate our efforts to help resolve current housing issues, including homelessness and disaster recovery. In October 2023, we took part in two major events: the CA League of Cities Conference and the Disasters EXPO USA. We brought a Connect Shelter 3+ model to each event, so folks could experience firsthand how sturdy and comfortable the supportive housing units are. At the CA League of Cities Conference, we had a pretty sweet location.
During the two events, we met with senators, policymakers, emergency responders, disaster recovery specialists, and other key decision makers, to share what makes our shelters ideal for both temporary and permanent supportive housing:
Many other shelter solutions are flimsy. Our steel-frame shelters are built on the same prefab platform as our high-quality homes. They’re made to last for decades, and can be used as either temporary or permanent supportive housing. The shelters can be relocated, too, as new needs arise.
Emergency sheds and traditional pallet shelters are often standalone--they house only one person per structure. We fit multiple bedrooms into a single unit, which is more cost-effective. When you look at the per-door costs, our shelters are more affordable than the competition’s.
Our shelters are built to the highest fire safety codes. This allows us to position units more densely than freestanding shed-type shelters. When buying or leasing land for a shelter solution, taking up less space translates to lower costs.
While each sleeping unit is compact, a big window lets in ample natural light to open up the space. There’s the option to add an en suite bathroom to each room for extra comfort and convenience. As people toured our shelters at the event, again and again we heard, “I can’t believe how spacious this feels.” At the Disasters EXPO, we also heard, “This is the nicest emergency shelter product I’ve ever seen.”

At the events, we also chatted about Connect Homes projects already in the works, and emerging opportunities. These include:
This is all part of our larger vision of bringing high-quality, rapidly deployed housing to those in need of shelter in California and beyond.
